Community Participation: An Overview

"If the community has a sense of ownership of something at the beginning then it's more likely to succeed." Dialogue with a community must begin long before its new radio station goes live with active recruitment of volunteers.

Schools: Classroom Broadcasts

Radio Regen has aimed to get local schools involved in all their broadcasts, recognising their integral role in communities. This has not only proved beneficial to pupils and teachers but has also increased listenership.

Refugees: Somali Nomads

Somali refugees have been trained by Radio Regen to make radio. Their show Somali Nomads, the only programme of its kind in Britain and presenter Liban Ahmad says it has proved a lifeline for new arrivals to the city.
